B.C. Canada

A body was recovered mid-afternoon Monday from under an avalanche that took place at Big White Ski Resort. The identity of the body has not been confirmed, but police believe that it is the body of the 21-year-old skier Leigh Barnier that has been missing since Sunday’s avalanche.
Leigh Barnier, from Sydney, Australia; was last seen by friends around 10:30 a.m. Sunday. He said that he was going to do “one more run.” That was about one hour before the avalanche at Parachute Bowl.
The body was found under three to four meters of snow in the main debris of the slide.
Rescue crews pulled a 21-year-old skier and a 12-year-old boy to safety Sunday morning soon after the slide buried them.
The snow was up to eight meters deep in some areas, with the force of the avalanche snapping trees in half and stripping the hills of rocks.
This is the seventh fatality caused by avalanches in Canada this season.
