Turkey to Change Free Speach Law

Turkey is expected to amend a law which makes "insulting Turkishness" illegal. In order to boost is chances of entering the European Union. According to Al Jazeera, Mehmet Ali Sahin, the country's justice minister said earlier today "The work [on the draft] has been finalised. I believe the proposal could be submitted to parliament this week."

The European Union has put pressure on Turkey to change the law, which is believed to be a threat to freedom of speech in Turkey. This law is seen as a major barrier for Turkey's accession into the EU.
