polar bears in the zoo

According to ABCNEWS.GO.COM a polar bears cubs were found dead in a local Nuremberg zoo. It was Vilma the mother polar bears first time having cubs and she had an unknown number of cubs. When the zoo keepers could not locae any of the cubs and noticed that the mother bear appeared not to be hungry, the first thought that came to their mind was that the polar bear must of eaten her cubs. Wild animals are known to eat there babies if they are having a hard time surviving so they believe this was the polar bears case.
Now the zoo's are thining "You cannot always intervene. You need to let the mother bears practice. If they don't learn how to bring up their cubs now, they will never learn." Since its the polar bears first time giving birth they should not interfear because it is more likely that something will go wrong. And there will be more oportunities for the bears to have cubs in the future.
